Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home Obituaries

William R. Magnan, 74, on January 4, 2023

William R. Magnan, age 74, a life-long resident of North Attleboro, MA, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at home with his devoted family by his side. Born in Attleboro on June 8, 1948, Bill graduated from Bishop Feehan High School with the Class of 1966.

He went on to earn a certificate in heavy equipment operation and repair in Charlotte, NC. After training, Bill was employed at several prominent area companies including Simeone Stone, J.H. Lynch, and Catepillar until his retirement.

He was a gentle soul who taught his daughters the importance of hard work and doing what is right and, like it or not, shared his punny sense of humor with all.

Bill was an avid nature-lover who spent much of his time outdoors both working and playing. His favorite places included Sandy Neck Beach in Sandwich, MA; walking and relaxing at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, RI; and new spots discovered while traveling with family.

Bill enjoyed adventurous pastimes such as whitewater rafting, windsurfing, kayaking, hiking, and cycling, often with family - especially his brother-in-law, Brian. More leisurely pursuits involved reading mystery novels, learning about ancient civilizations, tracing family genealogy, making home improvements, and volunteering with Meals on Wheels.

Treasured husband of Patricia A. (Murphy) Magnan; dedicated father of Kyla M. (Magnan) McGinley and her husband Sean, Brenna C. Magnan, and Deirdre A. Magnan; and cherished Grampop of Maeve C. and Rory M. McGinley, all of North Attleboro.

Son of the late Mildred V. (Tanner) and Raymond E. Magnan and son-in-law of the late Mary A. (Powers) Murphy and Walter H. Murphy, Jr. He was the beloved brother of Marilyn A. (Magnan) Stack and her husband James.

Bill also leaves behind brothers-in-law Brian J. Murphy and his wife Lee and Thomas M. Murphy (predeceased) and his wife Laura, several nieces, and a nephew.

Friends and family are warmly invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, January 15, 2023, from 12 noon to 2:00 pm, with a brief memorial service immediately following at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro, MA.
