Richard N. Blackwood, 50, on July 11, 2022

Dr. Richard Nicholas Blackwood passed unexpectedly on Monday July 11, 2022, in Melbourne, FL.

Born in Cambridge, MA he was a loving son to Norma Chance and the late Rueben Blackwood. Survived by his fiancée Linda Gilo, their three stepchildren, his older brother Paul Mowatt, wife Lisa, younger brother Robert Blackwood, wife Jenna, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.  

Rich had a passion for education and was an accomplished scholar. He graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He went on to earn six master’s degrees: an MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in Taxation and a Master of Science in Financial Planning from Bentley University, a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science in Information Technology from Florida Institute of Technology, and a Master of Science in Applied Economics from Georgia Southern University. Most recently, Rich earned his Doctor of Education focusing on Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

Rich was a wonderful son, loving fiancé, devoted stepfather & brother. He was a successful private equity investor and entrepreneur for a self-built finance and investment company. Rich was a man of faith who also served two years in the army reserves. An accomplished martial artist, Rich studied and instructed in Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do, and Hapkido.

He was a lifelong Boston sports fan to the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, and the Boston Red Sox. His favorite player of all time was Tom Brady.

Visitation, to which friends and family are most kindly invited to attend, will be held on Friday, July 22nd from 9:30-10:30 in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at St. Martha’s Church, 227 South Street, Plainville MA. Interment will be held after the Mass at St. Mary’s cemetery, Towne Street, North Attleboro MA.
