NEWTON – Raymond E. Vandette, Jr., 74, of Newton passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. 

Born April 9, 1942 in Attleboro, he was a son of the late Raymond, Sr.  and Gertrude (Duffy) Vandette.

Ray was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro before moving to Newton Highlands 13 years ago.

He was a 1960 graduate of North Attleboro High School and worked as a mason in the construction industry in the North Attleboro area for many years.  He previously worked for Northeast Concrete Products in Plainville and later constructed custom pools in the area.

He was a US Army National Guard veteran of the Vietnam War serving in Company D, 726th Maintenance Battalion.

Ray was an outdoor enthusiast and loved fishing, hunting and snowmobiling in Maine.

He was the former husband of Donna (Jette) Vandette and is survived by two children: Michael Vandette of Hadlyme, CT and Gregory Vandette of North Attleboro; two grandchildren: Rachael and Nicholas Vandette; five siblings: Janet Whalen and husband Dave of Bel Air, MD, Dennis Vandette of Bridgeton, ME, Edward Vandette and wife Sandy of North Attleboro, Richard Vandette of North Attleboro and Anne Cardello and husband Mike of North Attleboro; also many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late William Vandette who passed away in 2015.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 21 from 4-7 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro.  A funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 14 Park Street, North Attleboro at 10 o’clock.  Burial to follow at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brigham & Women’s Hospital, c/o Developmental Office, 116 Huntington Ave, 3rd Floor, Boston, MA 02116.

I'm so sorry to hear about Raymond. I use to love when we would come down and visit hoping Ray would be there. Him and my dad use to love to talk about the war. Great memories. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!
